Ding, ding, ding
Yep this summer we are 'leaving on a jet plane' for the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. This will be quite a trip because the kids have yet to take a plane. We'll also get to see Grandpa's place and introduce them to Great Grandma Kay. Grandpa is excited and has already planned lots of fun stuff for us to do and see. It's been about 8 years or so since Aaron and I have been so it's a long overdue trip!

Attack of the birds!
While checking out Turtle Bay's bird exhibit this weekend I got attacked by these colorful birds! At one point I had 4 of them crawling all over me! Kinda creeped me out.
We soon realized the backpack and the hats were what was attracting them.
And while Ella may be the cat whisperer, Jacob is definitely the bird whisperer...

Rodeo Week
This week was Rodeo week in Redding which is always a fun time of year. We try to participate in as many as the activities as we can and this year was no exception. A couple of the highlights were that we attended the rodeo last night and the annual pancake breakfast this morning. Lots of fun at both! The kids get so excited to see the rodeo
and we just about made it to the end of the show last night...which meant a rough time of waking up for school and the pancakes this morning! Another little tidbit....we are in record temps and the heat of summer has started early...the temp right now....102! Click for more photos

Crusin' with the Sheriffs
Ella and I had an exciting morning cruising on Lake Shasta in a Sheriff boat! Ella and I attend a class called Toddler Travels each week where we get to tour various spots around Redding. I love that they take us on adventures we can't do on our own or just do Turtle Bay and the obvious Redding sights.
This morning we got to learn all about the Sheriff's Department on Shasta Lake and it was A LOT of fun. One problem though. We had talked ourselves out of buying a boat this summer and it's not even summer yet and I really, really want one now! There's just something about hanging out on Shasta Lake that I love. It was a beautiful day today too. One bonus though. I found a job for Aaron to do when he retires...Work as a seasonal on the lake for the Sheriff!

The Pokemon Party
Friday afternoon we hosted Jacob's 6th birthday party at our house. 14 boys and 2 girls, it was quite the adventure! We had all kinds of Pokemon themed games...Find the Pokeball (spray-painted Easter eggs hidden throughout the yard), Pokemon character Bingo, Stomp the Geodude, Make a Pokemon character craft, and Jacob's favorite...Pin the tail on the Pikachu! We served a spread of Asian food that all the kids seemed to enjoy and topped it off with Pokeball cupcakes and ice cream. Oh and also we had trick candles on the cupcakes...big hit with Jacob--since he requested them and all!!

Well it didn't last but it was fun for a few minutes!
No, the mohawk was not a keeper. It was definitely fun and Jacob couldn't stop making devil horns, but after the photos, the head shaving commenced. He's been saying he wanted his hair cut like Daddy's for weeks now. The morning after having it cut he said, "Do you know why I wanted hair like Daddy? Because then you don't have to fix my hair in the morning!" Aww yes, because it cuts into his precious cartoon watching time before school.
